Fitting strength training into your running plan

Placement decides whether strength work supports your running or sabotages it. The proven rule: keep hard days hard and easy days easy. Put the strength session on the same day as an intense run — intervals or tempo work — with at least three hours in between, ideally afterwards. That keeps the 80/20 intensity distribution intact: easy days stay free of any additional load and serve recovery.

A concrete example: Tuesday morning intervals, Tuesday evening strength training. Thursday threshold run, followed by the second strength session.
